One of the most popular choices of symbolic gesture during a ceremony is the ancient Celtic tradition of handfasting.
You join hands with the love of your life, and I tie your hands together using cords, pieces of tartan, or ribbons and sometimes a lovely piece of material from the bride's dress.

Drinking from the quaich is just as popular as handfasting, and I very often do both within a ceremony. The quaich or 'loving cup' is symbolic of the pledge you have made to one another. You each take a drink from the quaich the first one as a newly married couple! You can have anything you like, traditionally it's whisky, but you can have something
non alcoholic, water, champagne.. the choice is completely yours!

With a sand ceremony, your marriage is symbolised by the pouring together of individual containers of sand. Each colour of sand represents you, and all that you were, all that you are and all that you will ever be.
It's a fantastic gesture to include when there are children, they look forward to pouring their sand and it's a great way to include them.
It's also just a really nice keepsake
from your big day.

With a candle lighting ceremony, you each light a candle each to symbolise your identity as two individuals. From these two candles you light a third to recognise your union together.
A stunning visual way to represent your love for each other.

The tree symbolises you hopes for the future as well as the beauty and wonder of life.
Whether a tree grows to be tall and strong depends on the nurture it receives. No tree grows alone – they all need the soil, the sunshine and the rain.
So too, a marriage needs to be nourished and you will be there for each other through all the seasons of your life together.

Your wedding is a celebration of family. It's the blending of families, separate up to the moment of your marriage, but united from
that day forward.
By presenting a gift to each of your mothers, you honour this blending of families, thanking your parents for the many sacrifices they have made and for their unconditional love.
